Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a method of measuring body composition by sending small electrical currents through the body. Since different tissues (muscle, fat, water) conduct electricity differently, InBody devices can accurately measure the composition of your body’s tissues.
InBody devices have been validated against gold-standard methods like DEXA, MRI, and CT scans. Studies show over 98% correlation with DEXA for body composition measurements. InBody uses Direct Segmental Multi-Frequency BIA (DSM-BIA) which eliminates the need for empirical estimation.
Yes, InBody tests are completely safe for most people. The electrical currents used are very low and cannot be felt. However, individuals with pacemakers, implanted defibrillators, or other electronic medical implants should not use InBody devices. Pregnant women should also avoid testing.
A standard InBody test takes approximately 60-90 seconds. This includes standing on the device’s scale and holding the hand electrodes. Results are generated immediately and can be printed or viewed digitally.
